This episode covers a WW1 French weapon I had not heard of before.

I hear Sadam Hussein had a program to develop that into a WMD,  which is why Bush Jr. attacked Iraq ...... [tinfoil] >:D

Very good.  A trifle overdone for ten minutes' worth, but very good.

I'd have to dig for it, but there was an actual example of using the propeller thrust of decked aircraft to help dock an aircraft carrier.

Not by blowing against the ship's superstructure (the "island"), but by the planes' collected thrust as they were anchored to the decking.

Maybe it was just to hold the ship's position against the tide or something.

I think I saw this in Jablonski's "Airwar" series, but I'm not sure.

Bit of a difference.
The joke here was they were trying to tow the ship with airplanes.
The actual real world example you're mentioning is where they used the power of deck parked aircraft to help with a docking

It was in a scene of the movie "The Bridges of Toko Ri". They used tied down aircraft to pinwheel the carrier. It was a seldom used thing with straight deck carriers IIRC.

Oh, that's probably where I got it from. Interesting to see that it was actually used, if rarely.

Excellent video. Ian is always so good with exploring the history of every weapon he comes across.

"so I ended up getting the above because I didn't want to make a whole production of sticking something between my knees and cranking. To me, the cranking on mine is pretty effortless, at least on the coarse setting. Maybe if someone has arthritis or something, it would be more difficult for them." - Ben
