The media is reporting that Florida is leading the nation and has now become the first state to have 2 million active concealed carry license holders. This is despite the irregularities and allegations of unlawful activities in the Commissioner of Agriculture's office that slow and delay the issuance of licenses.

Congratulations to Florida for passing the 2 million mark.  Good to see.  The article goes on to talk about recent efforts by the agency in charge of issuing licenses to illegally deny or delay issuing licenses.

I'm assuming that's resident and non-resident? Bummer that the new ag commissioner appears to be either anti-gun or anti-following state regs. I no longer hold a FL non-resident, but when I did, initial CCW and renewal were pretty quick.

I don't know if it made national news, but there was a while there that the ag department was backed up and having a hard time doing the prescribed background check and issuing the license in the designated timeframe, so they just skipped a bunch of background checks and issued the licenses.

When that came out, the new Ag commissioner ran, post Parkland, on a "clean up the CCW office" promise. Not very supportive of gun rights.

I actually voted for her anyway, because her other platform was "Not completely in the pocket of rich ag companies and Disney, so unlikely to continue ignoring their blatant violations ", which wasn't something her competitor could say. She also had some history to back that up.

She's been pretty much as expected, slightly annoying to gun owners over CCW's, and really annoying to owners of leaky phosphate mines.

Florida has a lot of people; they are the third largest state by population.  They're still under 10% of their overall population.

Last I checked Alabama had the highest percentage of permit holders and Indiana was in second place.
