Gunfire erupted when a warrant was being served at the location on the 3700 block of North 15th Street around 4:30 p.m., police say. Officers were first called to the scene for narcotics activity, according to Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew.

I don't think this is the same.  Police going after bad guy, bad guy starting gun fight.  Not the same as the two shootings last week at all.

Implication it was a narcotics warrant . . . considering what went on in Houston, I think it's important to reserve judgement until the facts are known. A major factor will be if and when police dash cam and body cam footage is made available.

Any word on whether or not it was a "no knock" warrant?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — At least six Philadelphia police officers were shot during a gun battle in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tioga section and rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, authorities say. Another officer was injured in a car crash while heading to the scene. CBS News reports two officers are inside the second floor of the home with three prisoners, while the gunman remains on the first floor.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross says he believes the officers trapped inside the home are OK.

Sources tell CBS3 the suspect was live-streaming some of the shootout while he barricaded himself inside a building. The source says authorities are working to shut the live-stream down.

Mayor Jim Kenney called the officers “brave” and that they need help with gun control to keep weapons out of criminals’ hands.

From what I heard, a multiple felon with a long rap sheet who I am sure passed a background check to get his gun(s).  If only we had red flag laws, this could have been prevents.

With all his prior arrests and felony convictions, it's sounding very much like this guy should have been sitting in a prison cell rather than running around loose. If he was on parole, were there conditions of his parole that required him to submit to searches by law enforcement? Unknown at this point.

When police present someone with a valid warrant, the proper thing to do is honor the warrant peacefully. This applies to everyone, regardless of their record (or lack of same), parole status, or whatever. Duh.

All we know is he's a drug dealer.  We don't know if he's a polite and consensual drug dealer, or not.  It's entirely possible to be a felon while serving a market that greatly desires what you have and not harming a soul.
