Instructor Belts?
« on: August 20, 2019, 01:58:45 PM »
Any of you guys carry using instructor belts? I have one I really, really like and would like to get another. However, as per usual with me, the one (X-concealment) I have is no longer made because they went out of business.

What are some good current brands that do well with full-sized pistols?

The Wilderness belt, and the knockoffs, work well for me.  I like the one with the 5 stitch, which is about medium stiffness.  It has no trouble supporting my full-size M&P with a light.

Wilderness Tactical, 5 stitch, in your width of choice.  I have their "ez fit" frequent flyer belt (plastic rings, go through metal detectors).

I also had a good experience with Wilderness 5 stitch instructor belt. Works great.

Make it 4: Wilderness.

I’ve had a few 511 copies of the wilderness instructor belt, they are not nearly as good or durable.

For your dressy stuff take a look at Bigfoot belts. I am leery of the metal stiffener though, I may go visit them and see just how their belts are made and if I can get one without the metal center piece if it seems stiff enough with just the leather.

Yeah, I got a one of the 5.11 belts some years ago, and they're just about good enough to hold your pants up. Not at all good for a gun. At least the version I have.

Quick question - did you guys get the "easy fit" or a specific belt size?

I have a wilderness too, so that's like six right?

None of us are going to be as tactical as my dad though. He wanted one and happened to be at the feed store. Cow collar! It's been his everyday belt for years. He tested the ring on it by hoisting himself 20 feet up on an electric hoist.

The Cabela's heavy duty web belt is good enough to hold up your pants and a heavy gun.  Last time I bought one, I accidentally got the light duty one.  It's almost good enough to hold up your pants.  (probably fine if I'd sew some Velrco on the end)

I have Wilderness also.  Due to work attire I mostly carry a Ruger LCP in a Bianchi tuckable with a 5.11 belt.

Wish this thread had come out about 2 months ago.  I ended up buying a rigger belt, which is the same thing but with a metal ring for hooking on instead of the buckle like te instructor belt.  I'd rather have the instructor belt. Damn ring just gets in the way...

I have a Wilderness I don't much care for. 5-stitch, I believe. For $20 and freight, I'll send it to you.

Well it arrived and I've worn it for IWB a few times now. I like it. It's more comfortable than my X-Concealment belt. I have to say that when it arrived I was like "WTF? Those APS guys lied to me!" When I took it out of the box, it felt overly flexible, even limp compared to my X-Concealment.

The X-Concealment is literally at least three times as stiff. If I take my pants off with that belt still in them, you can't fold the pants because the waistline holds a round shape, similar to my thicker leather carry belts. The Wilderness belt has a lot more give, and I was afraid it wouldn't hold a full-size pistol well. But it did, and with the greater flexibility, it didn't dig into me in the sitting position the way the X-Concealment sometimes does. Anyway, good call guys. :)

I had a few 511 belts with kydex stiffeners inside, they were very stiff belts, but I haven't found that a Wilderness belt to be any less supportive. The Wilderness belts don't feel as stiff, but they resist deforming or bending in the correct directions.
