A $138 electric car, free shipping
« on: December 24, 2019, 06:49:12 PM »
DW just got home from visiting her sis, and said she'd almost spent $138 to buy a new car  ???

https://liaubgvvea.myshopify.com/products/hduyihj?fbclid=IwAR3qBnN_NglEYQwBvlWy327UVCh3y1310qKPq44F-ugQjPTIvaXt0lVLtC4

I've never heard of that website - not really surprising I haven't - and the Chinese to English translation isn't the best.  It's tempting....  But there's some missing info, such as what is involved in charging it?  And "West Coast" half doors would make winter driving uncomfortable.

I've always believed that a deal that's too good to be true is too good to be true.

ETA: Hell, if I were to buy one I'd go the extra $5 and get the one with AC.  Texas summers almost demand it.

I feel that anyone gullible enough to fall for this scam sort of deserves to.....

They are showing (mostly) pictures of a Renault Twizy.  Which is a real "car", built in Korea and sold in Europe and Asia.  I wonder what, if anything, will be delivered.  Sometimes the best part about these facebook scams is the random crap that shows up.

At first I was hesitant, but after I saw it has 120 horsepower I was interested.  Then I saw it had "Dual Electric Motors:For superior handling in rain and snow" and I was sold.  I'm getting two so they will get here twice as fast.

OP: "But there's some missing info, such as what is involved in charging it?"

Battery and charging quotes from Wiki:

-----------------------
Available in three models, starting at €6,990 up to €8,490 (in the UK: GB£6,990 to GB£7,400), the Twizy sales price does not include the battery pack, which is leased for a monthly fee that includes roadside assistance and a battery replacement guarantee..

....

The 6.1 kWh (22 MJ) lithium-ion battery is located underneath the front seat. Both motor variants carry the same weight of 474 kg (1,045 lb),[21] including batteries of 100 kg (220 lb). The range is homologated at 100 km (62 mi). In real conditions, Renault announces around 80 km (50 mi). In worst conditions (high speed, no eco-driving), Twizy can reach 50 km (31 mi).

The battery can be charged with an extendable spiral cable stored beneath a flap at the front of the vehicle. The integrated charger is compatible with roadside battery charging facilities as well as the standard 220-240 V 10 A household electrical supply. Charging an empty battery takes around three-and-a-half hours.
--------------------

(I deleted my remark about $5.96 for a recharge.)

It actually sells:

------------------
The Twizy was the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in Europe during 2012.[9] The milestone of 15,000 Twizys sold worldwide was achieved in April 2015.[10] Global cumulative sales totaled 21,874 units through December 2018, with Europe as its main market.[11][12]
----------------------

The Wiki article also includes a discussion on safety and winterizing.

The battery capacity equates to $5.96 for my rate of about $0.14 per kWh.

Sounds like a really sucky vehicle.

Video review.  (With a charming British dame.)

I tell ya true, if it weren't impossible to charge a vehicle from my apartment building, I'd be looking into something like this a little more carefully.  That battery "rental" scares me a little, though.

I'd also like to know how it does on hills.  Nobody seemed to mention that.

For the 2 seater there was mention of 15 to 20 degree hills in the specs.  "Maximum Gradeability 15 -2 20*"  Just below the pictures of the interior.

The specs also said "Quantity of battery: 5", "Battery Mode: lead-acid storage battery" and "Battery Size: 60V 100-120Ah".  Sounds like 5 12v deep cycle batteries might work.

ETA:  Correction: "Maximum Gradeability 15 -2 20*" should read "Maximum Gradeability 15 -20*"

I'd consider something like this too.  But 31 miles would just make the 30 mile round trip to work.  I'd have to figure worst case since both routes have a bunch of hills.

I just ran a conversion on  €6,990 to USD.  Comes out to a bit more than posted in the ad at ~ $7,750.

Hell, might have to buy 3, sell 2 and make some $$.

<giggle>  My commute to work only had hills going to work.

Sorry.  Couldn't resist.  Not like I haven't said stuff like that, too.  "I had to walk two miles to school barefoot in the snow.  Uphill.  Both ways."

I see what you mean, though.
