Out of curiosity, why is the information useless if you don't know the state?
You kidding me? ("State" is just an example; don't take that literally.)
"It's snowing like mad here and gas is down to $1.39.9."
What good does that do you?
The "information" is useless."It's snowing like mad here in Colorado and gas is down to $1.39.9."
Slightlly more helpful without being personally revealing.
"It's snowing like mad here in Golden Colorado and gas is down to $1.39.9."
Much more useful (to truckers, e.g.), and still not personally revealing.
Even "It's snowing like mad here at Latitde 39.9°North, Longitude 105.1° West, Elevation 5551 ft and gas is down to $1.24.9" is still more helpful, but, realistically, doesn't ID you unless you're in the only ranch house on 2000 acres !
