Dayum!
« on: January 16, 2021, 11:40:47 PM »
Erik Cortina - F-class shooter, and seems to be an all around likeable guy (he shows his screw ups - always like it when people are humble enough to show the world when they make a mistake).

1000 yard group - first 4 rounds were a 0.3 inch group.

No. you didn't read that wrong.  Zero decimal three.

5th round opened the group up to a whopping 1.3 inches.

At 1000 yards.

Damn.

I think his scope probably cost more than any firearm I have ever owned or ever will own.

Best group I've able to maintain at 100yds is ~0.25" with a Bushmaster Varminter. By the math that works out to 2.5" at a 1,000. BY THE MATH. In the real world I doubt my shots would be in the right state and I would count myself lucky just to hit a man-sized target especially with the 5.56 varminter at 1,000 yds. 1k yds is whole different ballgame and 5.56 would be all over map due to drop and wind effects.

My one chance of shooting 1000yds I went 185/200 with iron sights. I was pleased as heck. Now consider the size of the 9 ring on a highpower 1000 yard target I was able to do that with something like a 15 inch 20 shot group.

I've shot 600 meters with a rattle-trap M16A2 and was happy enough to get all of them in a silhouette.

I doubt you could call it a "flyer" but it's gotta hurt when the last shot is a tenth of MOA out and it makes the group 30 times bigger.
