A lawsuit says no. I will be interested to hear what the 'mixture of various concoctions' is.

They argue they paid premium prices for an ingredient that they prize for its health benefits (although the government suggests certain people limit their intake of tuna because of mercury contamination). In suburban Washington, for example, the price of a foot-long tuna sandwich at a Subway outlet costs $7.39. The same size cold-cut combo sandwich, by contrast, runs $6.19.
If I were on the jury, I would vote against them purely out of principle.  A dollar more is not "premium" pricing and you are still getting a fast food sandwich.  This is the kind of lawsuit that should be thrown out.  If it violates federal regulations, then federal prosecutors should look at it instead of going after people for memes.

It's the same group of bottom-feeders that sued Subway because the footlong was only 11.5 inches. It's a money grab. They know Subway's lawyers and insurance company will offer up some kind of Go Away money.

https://oceana.org/blog/whats-can-4-things-consider-when-buying-canned-tuna

From the link above:

But tuna aren't a single species of fish. "Tuna" is an umbrella term that encompasses 61 species scientists often categorize as “tuna and tuna-like fish.” Of these 61, only 14 are considered true tuna. And of the 15 sold commercially or caught for sport, usually just three varieties — albacore, skipjack and yellowfin — are sent to the cannery.

So maybe this is more of a labeling issue than anything else: Subway (and probably other foodservice companies) are using tuna made in part of 'tuna-like fish'.

One of our neighbors kids worked at Subway, and she described making the tunafish salad for sandwiches.  The tuna came in an enormous can, was a product of Thailand and got dumped in a bowl and mixed with mayo.  The thing that impressed me about it was the large amount of mayo used in the recipe.

I gave up on tuna years ago, it's just not the same since they took the dolphin out of it.

It didn't used to be called Flipper in a can for nothing

Have you ever made tuna or chicken salad? It has a crap ton of mayo or Miracle Whip in it. I try to only use a tablespoon per can of tuna and I use dill relish and pickle juice to make less dry.

I do, but I only use enough mayo to bind.  I also add sweet relish, generally.

I use pickle relish or salad cubes. Can't stand celery in either tuna or chicken salad which is why I won't eat either one at restaurants since 99% of them use celery.

Ditto. Water chestnuts or grapes, that's a game changer.

I add enough mayo to bind it, sweet relish to taste, (and onion and celery) then thin it out with a little Miracle Whip.  That works better than using all mayonnaise or all MW.  I do the same mayo+MW thing with devilled eggs, but those get some yellow mustard too.

The cold cut combo sandwich is made with turkey cold cuts.  If you want real cold cuts, you pay extra for that; i don't remember what they call that one.

So I learn something every day.  I had to google 'salad cubes'. I am pretty confident I have never seen this product in my life here in the PNW in any of the pickle aisles at the store.  Is this a regional Midwest thing, or are they available in other areas of the country?

I don't eat tuna or chicken salad but if you want to cut the fat down a little use a spoon of plain yogurt.

That I don't know. It's basically big chunk relish.

I don't understand the big deal about dolphins.  Somebody explain it, please.

And there's no such thing as too much mayonnaise.

I've never seen them, I had to look that up too. First thing I saw was Mt. Olive brand, so it might be a Carolina area thing.

I also like to rough chop dill pickles (spears or sticks) instead of using relish.

I haven't read into this, but I've heard objections to eating dolphins on the basis that they are very intelligent, perhaps only second to humans?

And there is a great deal of confusion between the dolphin-fish (see my avatar) and the dolphin-mammal (aka Flipper)

On store shelves here in Ky. Often find salad cubes on salad bars as well.

Is the submarine warfare insignia actually dolphinfish, not the mammal?  Having not looked closely at one, I didn't know that.
