There is something Stephen-King-creepy about a giant bunny, be it an Easter one. Kudos to Dick for taking out the threat pre-emptively. 12ga is the only way to be certain. Still, he should have immediately reloaded for the potential encore - everybody knows one salvo is seldom enough.

There wasn't time for a second salvo.  Too many innocent children in the way.  Should have used an EBR and emptied a magazine into the big demented bunny. 

Anyone remember Ralphie's pink bunny costume in "A Christmas Story?"  Now that thing needed to be shot.
