Jesus Chicken franchise is so popular that Santa Barbara wants to declare it a public nuisance.

As an architect and planner, I have some problems with this. In fact, I have a LOT of problems with this. Municipalities enact zoning regulations to establish controls on development within their borders. Starting up a franchise like a Chick-fil-A costs the franchise owner a LOT of money. To set up any business, the owner has to comply with all the regulations established by the zoning commission -- some of which make sense, and some of which may be nothing more than expensive boondoggles. But, it's one of the costs of doing business.

So to make a new business follow all your rules, and then declare that YOUR rules didn't work so it's all the business owner's fault for being too popular strikes me as being rather unconstitutional.

It's all fun and games until someone copies CFA's business model - and then adds cannabis and vapes.

I though CFA had given up any pretense of supporting Christian values.  Was I wrong?

I think we had a thread about this a couple of weeks ago.

IIRC Santa Barbara specifically put Jeebus Chikin at that location because they felt it would cripple their business model?

Wasn't a specific thread, but was part of a broader thread. Last dozen or so messages...

Yeah, I posted the local article in another thread, and yeah, at that time, Santa Barbara had already created large "no drive-in zones", so there was limited real estate within the city limits for CFA to choose from. IIRC, there's a car wash next door where the lines occasionally go out to the street, and a Jack in the Box where they rarely do.

Like I said there, CFA could have gone outside the city limits like In-N-Out did, and just like In-N-Out, people would have made the pilgrimage in their Priuses.  But yeah, fault should lie with the city from that time.

Not entirely, but I think the family made some kind of move to separate any of their political involvement from the company.

Technically, that statement isn't Christian.

Ok, so I guess they are still having a pretense of supporting Christianity.

He's saying it's just generic religious talk, that doesn't commit them to any specific belief. A Jewish or Muslim-owned business could use the same language.

They provide good service
Hire, keep, and promote people based on their ability all other considerations are mute.
Clean restaurants
Treat everyone equally
Are successful without govt involvement
As far as I know they stay out of politics left and right.
The owners are white.
The owners hold christian values. If any other religion  they would get a pass.

Yeah, no wonder the left despises them.

Yes, taken literally the statement does not refer to any specific religion, although I guess it narrows it down to ones that have a God. Now that I think about it, fulfilling that mission statement doesn't actually require a religion at all, just a belief in a God.

I find the statement to be overall positive, no gatekeeping on my part. I don't think there really is a gate and if there was I wouldn't be qualified to "keep" it.

I wouldn't be a very good gatekeeper, I'd keep wandering off to the nearest pub . . .

I'm comfortable with that.  At least it's not "kill everyone who is not on The One True Path."

At least it's not "kill the infidels."

Which seems to be perfectly acceptable to many on the left unlike that evil "love thy neighbor" stuff

Classically, I believe that's Saint Peter.
