Shaving soaps
« on: December 18, 2022, 10:24:03 AM »
Finally used up the last of a Willaim's muili pack of shaving soap bars and come to find out I can't find it now because after a google search it's apparently been discontinued Grrrrr.

In a search for a substitute I found this

https://www.kroger.com/p/the-art-of-shaving-shaving-soap-refill-lavender-essential-oil-for-sensitive-skin-95g-3-4oz/0067053540002?fulfillment=PICKUP&searchType=default_search

$46 for one bar??????? Who buys this stuff. The Williams was ~$1 a bar.

$71 with bowl

I just use a cheap coffee mug

Anyway.
Anyone have a favorite shaving soap bar they use that doesn't require a loan from the bank to buy that can be had from Kroger, Walmart, or Amazon and doesn't have a strong scent?

West coast shaving online.
I use colonel conk bay rum glycerin soap but I got a sampler pack of duck fat soaps I really like too.
My wife gave me a tube of Depot shaving cream I like also.

Arko.

Made in Turkey and smells like 1950s soap. In fact one of the reasons I like it is an "olfactory nostalgia". My old man used to shave with just Lux or whatever soap bars, and the smell of these connected me to him and learning to shave. They last forever. I'm just down to the last two from a 12 pack I bought in 2014 (admittedly these days I only shave once a week). They lather up well, and I melt a couple of sticks into my shaving mug and I keep one stick in my travel dop.

I just looked up my order, and it was $19. They've gone up a bit, but still fairly cheap.

I ended up making my own shaving soap using glycerine soap base, orange essential oil, and kaolin clay.

It's not perfect, but it does a nice job.

We tough guys here in Michigan just lather up with the regular hand soap in the shower.  None of that girly man stuff for us.

Col. Conks bay rum melted into an enameled blue coffee cup has been very reliable on the 24ga wires protruding from my face

Anything works but I use Co Bigelow shaving cream in the green tube from Amazon.

Walmart used to sell a bar of shaving soap for like a dollar in the store.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.
