I remember reading it in either the full book form or as the serial and not finishing it.
Dune as a magazine serial was published in Analog, at least partly in a brief stretch of time when the magazine was experimenting with a larger format. I had a couple issues from that period, inc. one with Dune, with John Schoenherr illustrations.
