Hey Terry, I'm not a ST fan either.  I could never embrace the kumbaya, commie society even before I got political.  I was just responding to the whole "arrg these plot holes that the transporter caused!! Bad Writing!!"

No, the writers adressed it, mostly in TOS.  The show is internally consistent on the use of transporters as a weapon. They generally don't work like that as a matter of design, or countermeasures, that are addressed in the shows lore.

Unlike, say, using a ship jumping to lightspeed as a kinetic kill......

Yep shields block transporters but there times when shields were not involved and they seem to forget they had transporters an aggravating number of times.
Heck in one episode, The Enemy Within, they forgot they had shuttles for drama.
Transporters could transport antimatter. In the TOS episode Obsession they transported an antimatter bomb to a planet's surface.

Re-read my Reply # 24, which was much edited (as usual) before I saw responses.

What's "TOS?"  (< Which illustrates my deep and passionate concern for the later Star Trek fanouts.)

As also stated, I liked Star Trek at the outset, but not for the long term.

Often used to shorthand the various series

TOS - The Original Series
TNG - The Next Generation
DS9 - Deep Space Nine
VOY - Voyager
ENT - Enterprise

Movies have their own but that should do you for the series

There are more for the post 2009 series and movies but I don't bring those up unless I'm on the toilet which is the only place I'm in the right state of mind for them.

Edit: made a typeo for Voyager

I don't know what could have given you that idea  :P

Not a fan of anything from the 2009 movie onward except maybe and I mean maybe the 3rd season of Picard.

Everything 2009 on doesn't look like or feel like ST and the writing and acting is god awful
They tried to go brainless action orientated in the movies which sorry isn't ST.
Get sick and tired of the constant lens flare effect which gave me a headache 10 minutes into the 2009 move. Never finish the movie as I turned it off and walked away to do something more productive.

WLJ spake thus:

"Often used to shorthand the various series

TOS - The Original Series
TNG - The Next Generation
DS9 - Deep Space Nine
YOY - Voyager
ENT - Enterprise

Movies have their own but that should do you for the series"

I shall be grateful forever for that information.

And from your later spakes above, I see I am not the only one who had a burnout threshold for Trekness.

Fun:

I always wondered how they got all those Tribbles on the transporter platform.

'Tis a puzzlement.

I haven't watched Discovery.  Just heard a lot of people say it was bad.  That first one sounded like an immature teenager's view of what authority looks like.

Actually that is used quite regularly but I stopped before getting that far.
STD falls in the post 2009 era I don't consider ST
But anyway

STD - Star Trek Discovery
STP - Star Trek Picard
STSNW - Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (often the ST is dropped to keep with the 3 letter pattern)

Edit: Forgot one that is suppose to be in production but not aired yet.

ST31 - ST Section 31
