Sling Bag or "Man Purse"
« on: July 18, 2024, 12:03:14 PM »
It is fashionable around here for a lot of youts, and even some older guys, to be toting a bag. Often messenger bags, but designer shoulder purses are very in style with a lot of the youts from a certain demographic toting stuff from Louie, DK, etc... I figure it's probably swap meet stuff, but they - bit enough for a Glock and a stendo or three...

I see shoulder sling/messenger bags that are big enough for an AR pistol.

I want one.

This is what I typically carry: 5.11 tactical push bag.  Amazon has a plethora of similar clones for much cheaper.

I’ve used a maxpedition bag for years but as my leatherwork has improved, I’m thinking of making something that looks a lot less tactical. Iow no Molle loops.
What we have here is failure to communicate.

I have one of these that I have used for a while:  https://vertx.com/commuter  It's a decent bag, and carries a handgun, IFAK and mags really well.  Pretty non tactical as well.

The .300blk SBR needs a slightly bigger version because I keep the can on it, so it has a real backpack.

My bag is a Claire Dane Messenger Bag that my wife paid WAY too much for but it works great for my purposes.

Yeah, this one is a lighter, but ripstop, nylon...

I've had a Maxpedition Versa since the company started making them.  I really like that tough little shoulder bag, but I haven't carried in it since the first day.

It took about zero minutes to realize everyone saw it, looked at it, admired it, hated it, but most importantly.... NOTICED IT.
I don't want people looking at my concealed carry weapon, and I really don't want it in a bag that might be snatched.

Meanwhile, it makes a great bag for travel, or a ready bag in the house.  For a carry weapon?  Nope, not for me.

Strap goes over the head cross-body, this prevents bag snatching. I replaced the wimpy "stock" clip-on strap with an old laptop bag strap I had. You snatch my bag and yer dragging my fat az with it!

Welcome aboard, Carteach.  New guys buy ammo and beer.  I'll take some 30.06 to feed my Garand and a sixer of Dechutes Brewery Fresh Squeezed IPA.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

I have a belt pouch with a shoulder strap, but I only carry it to and from the car.  Contains phone, checkbook, camera, small flashlight, small first aid kit, five round speedloader, sundries.  I  usually clip reminder notes and shopping lists to the belt.

In my junk room stash of general stuff, I recently found a belted briefcase which seemed very heavy and had lots of pouches and pockets.

I got a lot of bags and briefcases from a local secondhand store, including my range bag and my huge bugout bag.

I discovered this one was a security case which contained two trauma plates and could unfold to protect a greater area.

Looks a little like this...

I got one of these: SOG Ninja Tactical daypack. 5-ish years ago.  Does it have a magic hidden pocket for a gun?  No.  Laptop pocket?  No.

It's not quite big enough for all the stuff I want to carry, so I added a couple MOLLE pouches from Maxpedition.  Thus, my question above about capacity.  YMMV.

I noticed a month or so ago that it had blown a major seam in a way I didn't think I could patch.  I went ahead and bought another, rather than do the whole research thing again.

I wear the 5.11 tactical shirts with the "document" pouches. I call them my saddle bags. I don't particularly like carrying stuff in a bag or purse. Such things are too easily ripped off your shoulder, or left behind.
