The "random Turkish dad" Olympic pistol shooter
« on: July 31, 2024, 11:59:18 PM »
Anyone else see this bit about the guy in a T-shirt that won silver in 10 meter pistol with no special glasses and both eyes open?

It does seem surprising. I thought the special glasses were required to make the thing work, but I don't know much about Olympic pistol shooting. Who came up with it anyway? They should have something more like IDPS shooting, but then I guess America would be the only one with competitors?

Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I watched that match. It looked like he walked in off of the street. I thought the Turks were going to win it but the team they were competing against had a run of unanswered points and they took the gold.

I was a big fan of Random Turkish Dad until they went mainstream.

I was wondering why some commentators made a point of saying he wore no ear protection, but then someone said it was for crowd noise.

I know high powered PCP air rifles make more noise than you'd expect, but I don't know about precharged pneumatic target air pistols. I know the spring piston and pneumatic air pistols I've shot are quite quiet.

I don't watch the Olympics, but this guy is all over the news this morning, and good for him. I saw a split screen photo of him and with a totally tech-decked out shooter that made him stand out that much more.

I like that picture of him like he just got out of his lawn chair at a BBQ and said "meh, hold my beer and watch this"

Noticed some media outlets seem to feel the need to blur out the gun.

Now... Can we take advantage of that? I see an opportunity for an increase in position shooting... in high school and collegiate athletics...
