Post-Trump Gun Articles
« on: November 24, 2024, 07:40:55 AM »
Two gun-related articles popped up on my newsfeed this morning.

Fox News:

https://www.foxnews.com/us/more-republican-women-obtaining-firearms-gun-ownership-declines-male-democrats-poll

The Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/23/women-lgbtq-guns-trump

I just thought the contrasting focus of each article was interesting.

On the tangent, I note that The Guardian has a notation at the bottom to please send them money to "fight Trump" for the next four years.

Male democrats are owning FEWER guns? The only reason I could see for that happening is if more male Democrats are acquiring felony convictions and have the wit to deny owning firearms.

Otherwise, I'm HIGHLY skeptical about any surveys on gun ownership - most people I know don't answer either mail or phone polls at all, and certainly won't truthfully answer questions about guns, jewelry, fur coats, or anything else about valuable items they may own.

Although several years ago someone got hold of information from the BATmen about the numbers of legally owned machine guns, SBRs, and suppressors owned in each state (hopefully only metadata, not personal information) and tried to infer overall gun ownership from the number of NFA tax stamps issued on a state by state basis.
Trump won in 2016. And again in 2024. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

I've never trusted these kind of polls
If someone called or knocked on my door asking me if I own any guns I would automatically say no and I'm sure a very high % of others would do the same.

I usually don't trust polls either, but with all the crazy on the social media by the Handmaids and trannies, I'm willing to believe a significant uptick in gun sales to those groups. They could just be talking big on the internet, but they are so whacked out about Trump that I believe they are actually doing more than talking, and going out to buy guns. I can only hope they get proper training.

It means large numbers of gun-owning men have switched from Democrat to Republican, so larger and larger percentages of male Democrats are of the White Dudes for Harris variety.

If someone is stupid enough to knock on my door asking if I own guns they are going to get an extremely unpleasant confirmation that I indeed do because I’m going to treat them as someone gathering intelligence for a home invasion.

From the article:

Quote
the study concluded that gun ownership "may be influenced by one’s political beliefs more than in the past, likely because of the salience of the gun issue in political campaigns and political culture today.

Interesting that they assumed that one's politics influenced gun ownership rather than the other way around.

LOTS of projection in that linked article from the Guardian.
