Children 'bad for planet'
« on: May 07, 2007, 08:13:28 AM »
I guess they would think that I'm a bad citizen of this world since I have 5 children and 12 grandchildren.  At least they haven't gone as far as the Communist Chinese and trying to make it just 1 child per family, at least not yet.
It does kind of go against the Bible which says
Quote
Genesis 9:7
As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it."

Children 'bad for planet'

HAVING large families should be frowned upon as an environmental misdemeanour in the same way as frequent long-haul flights, driving a big car and failing to reuse plastic bags, says a report to be published today by a green think tank.

The paper by the Optimum Population Trust will say that if couples had two children instead of three they could cut their family's carbon dioxide output by the equivalent of 620 return flights a year between London and New York.

 Full coverage: Climate change in-depth

John Guillebaud, co-chairman of OPT and emeritus professor of family planning at University College London, said: "The effect on the planet of having one child less is an order of magnitude greater than all these other things we might do, such as switching off lights.

"The greatest thing anyone in Britain could do to help the future of the planet would be to have one less child."

In his latest comments, the academic says that when couples are planning a family they should be encouraged to think about the environmental consequences.

"The decision to have children should be seen as a very big one and one that should take the environment into account," he added.

Professor Guillebaud says that, as a general guideline, couples should produce no more than two offspring.

The world's population is expected to increase by 2.5 billion to 9.2 billion by 2050. Almost all the growth will take place in developing countries.

The population of developed nations is expected to remain unchanged and would have declined but for migration.

The British fertility rate is 1.7. The EU average is 1.5. Despite this, Professor Guillebaud says rich countries should be the most concerned about family size as their children have higher per capita carbon dioxide emissions.

If people want to have three kids they are MORE than welcome to pay a carbon offset to me.

I have no children.

I'm gonna father ninety children, and they're ALL going to grow up to be oil, coal, and steel baron(esse)s, just to piss this Green Think Tank off.

Plants take in carbon dioxide, and produce oxygen.

Before these freaks start placing limits on how many children citizens of this country can have, these people need shipping out to a homeland of their own.

So today it's carbon offsets.  Population reduction isn't a new argument, and still very relevant.  What's unusual is a country like England discussing it for themselves; usually it is aimed at the Third World.

Seems ill advised for a socialist country to encourage limiting births.

Who is going to pay to support the ponzi scheme of the welfare state down the road?

I have 40 acres of pine trees soaking up all that CO2 that y'all are spitting out. Smiley

Hah, my 25 acres of Black Walnut trees eat your wussy pine trees and Irwin's carbon emissions for lunch!

I just wish Leftists would take their own rantings seriously and not have children.  We could eliminate them after a generation.  Imagine a world without smelly sandal-wearing Leftists demanding that I do this or that.  A cleaner and freer world. angel

Since plants use C02 and expel O2 (oxygen), shouldn't vegetarians recieve their due criticism? I think they are ruining the planet.

Talk about pollution.  Even when the walnuts themselves aren't polluting your brownies, you still have those black, oily husks stinking things up and sticking to everything.

Stop having kids?  OK, them first.

Can someone inform that over-educated idiot that 3 children per couple IS replacement rate?
