Percent of Adult Firearm Owners by State
« on: January 09, 2025, 09:30:29 AM »
From Visual Capitalist (also commie pinko Pew Foundation), so who knows about the criteria or accuracy, but probably generally accurate. I'm bummed that hippy Montana beat out Idaho. I was quite surprised at the low numbers in Florida, and even the <50% in Texas.

. . .  I was quite surprised at the low numbers in Florida, and even the <50% in Texas.
A lot of Texans simply don't respond to surveys of ANY type. Especially the kind that ask a question which can be interpreted as "Do you have anything in your house worth stealing?"
Trump won in 2016. And again in 2024. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

I personally could probably arm my extended family, brothers and sisters, kids and nieces and nephews and all their respective broods.

There is also a big population of people in the major cities (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio) that may not be armed.  They are also more likely to not talk about what they have.  My parents moved out of Houston when I was little and my mother beat it into our heads to NOT talk about any nice things we have.  We ended up in a rural area and I think you would have trouble finding a home that didn't have a shotgun and hunting rifle at least.  Maybe not one per person, but not zero.

Household ownership would be at least 20% higher than the rates indicated on the map, per my w.a.g.

Or is there really anyway to surmise that?

Edit.
The more I think about it,  household ownership rates would be less than individuals because of a higher expectation that 2 gun owning adults would live at a single address but one gunowner at multiple residences is difficult to define.

Carry on.

My kids all know to answer "no" to any questions regarding weapons ownership. Especially at a doctor visit.

If you take out the Everett-Olympia corridor I bet WA would jump 20-30 points.

They actually don't say on the graphic how they compiled the data. I guess we could assume polls. I'm not sure what the privacy laws are on 4473s. Though even with them, if you're in a state where there is no NICS check for permit holders, then the 4473s the ATF has would under-report that state.

4473s stay at the FFL's place of business unless he/she goes out of business.

I wonder what that map looks like if you include illegally owned firearms.

I bet NY and IL would give FL and TX a run for their money then.

Yeah, sorry, what I meant was the ATF has records of the background check. Those are often used to show firearm sales.

I wonder if Ney York is really such a statistical outlier, or people are just will not admit to owning something their government thinks is illegal?  Or more precisely, treats citizens as if they are illegal.
The feral government is the only group in the known universe that can promulgate a 26-page form that collects two pages of information accompanied by 24 pages of incoherent instructions, and proclaim at the bottom of page 26 that the document complies with the paperwork reduction act.
