I was going to veer my, "Ben's a crappy welder" thread, but thought this was interesting enough for it's own thread.
I had no idea that there are now battery powered SMAW welders. To refer back to the other thread, I was thinking that I should refamiliarize myself with my little SMAW welder, so went to the ESAB website to download the manual. That's where I saw this:
https://esab.com/us/nam_en/products-solutions/product/welding-equipment/stick-welders-smaw/renegade-volt-es-200i/It runs on DeWalt Flexvolt batteries and claims 30 rods per charge. I was thinking this was really neat. One of the reasons I got my little ESAB was for doing stuff like fence/cattle gate repairs and similar with 6011 (AKA "farm rod"). While it requires hauling a generator to wherever to use it, it was still way cheaper than buying a DC diesel machine, which I would never do for my low use case.
Not that this one is cheap - it's $3600 on Amazon, but the concept for farm and similar work is neat. I would have had no idea that you could run a stick welder on freakin' DeWalt batteries. I guess this thread kinda ties into the jumpstarter thread as well.
