Lib Baiting as a recreational sport.
« on: June 14, 2005, 11:58:47 AM »
I was just chatting w/ Slide Lock, and I started to think about what sort of things it would be fun to put on a T Shirt if you, say, worked with a predominantly liberal setting such as a television news crew, or were a full time student at a state university.

My first reaction was "Nuclear Power was your Friend."

But I remember from here "My Gun makes Diane Feinstein Cry."

And I realized that you guys would be able to come up with many more than I ever could.

Show a peace symbol and caption it "footprint of the American chicken."

And on the equal-opportunity offense front, for right-wingers just wear one of those T-shirts that shows the "Jesus fish" labeled "Darwin" and sprouting feet.

I think my Condi Rice for President bumper sticker got my tire flattened last weekend. So, apparently, that's one phrase that works.

We aplogize for being right about the WMD's, so we won't say I told you so.

We know Bush wouldn't lie, so he must have been confused.

Rumsfeld gave it his best try (that's the scary part).

Iraq....Iran.... he only missed by one letter.

Don't worry about your lost civil rights:  we promise to give them back after the danger is passed.

With allies like the Saudis, we don't need any enemies.

How about:  "Be sensitive  --  I'm a right-wing gun-nut."

Or: "Will work for guns"  (or bullets).

Or: "Can I help it if I was born rich, bright and good looking?"

Or: Peace is good; freedom is better."  (to steal someone else's sig line.)

How about: "Abort feminists"?  (or "liberals")

"Feminism is nature's answer for ugly women." ??

I'll keep thinking -- don't want to leave anyone un-insulted.

I made up this image to make into a T Shirt but haven't gotten around to it yet. I think it would do nicely.

I've been thinking of alternative captions... maybe "Making liberals wet their pants since 1944"

Actually, I don't think that "lib-baiting" is a good idea at all.  It simply means that we're no better than the radical yobs on the other side who denigrate all we hold dear.  I'd rather see us being positive, speaking out about our point of view in such a way as to educate and enlighten those on the other side.  They may not agree with us, but that's no reason to be childish toward them.  Sure, some of them will never see things our way, and will continue to be a pain in the posterior:  but then, some of them could say the same thing about us, no?  A bit more mutual respect might see the "great debate" move forward, rather than stagnate and degenerate into mutual name-calling.
Let's put the fun back in dysfunctional!

Darn-it, Preacherman! Here we'd worked ourselves into a good lib-hatin' frenzy, and you have to go and inject reason into the discussion! PTUI!
Darn you.

Ah, it's just humor. I'm probably one of the most liberal people here (well, Libertarian, but people get confused when one expects freedom to extend to everyone) and I thought they were pretty funny. If something horrible is said, I promise I'll be properly indignant! Smiley

Preach,

For a long time I thought, if I just kept my cool and was responsible and showed respect, I'd get respect back from the other side.

I tried to keep that tack for about 7 years et cetera.  Ya know, it never worked.

So I stopped throwing good effort after bad.

The best way that I can sum it up is:  To most conservatives I know, libs are tragically misinformed or don't understand something crucial.  To most libs I know, conservatives are evil, so whatever must be done illogically etc to take them down is ultimately justified.

I think the good parson is correct.  We shouldn't be all that enthusiastic about removing the splinter from the eye of a liberal (whatever that means) while ignoring the railroad tie in the conservative eye (whatever that means).  All corners of the debate contain warts.
"Men, it has been well said, think in herds. It will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."
- Charles Mackay, Scottish journalist, circa 1841

"Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it." - John Lennon

Preacherman,
I can't really agree with you on this one.  We're not talking about yelling slogans in their faces, we're talking about wearing a t-shirt.  If they have the right to wear t-shirts with Liberal slogans on them, we right-wingers have that right too.

Note too that the Conservatives are generally better behaved about this too.  I'd hazard a guess that more cars with Bush/Cheney bumper stickers were vandalized than those with Kerry/Edwards stickers.  As Bill Mauldin said when officers complained about the cartoons for Stars and Stripes depicting incompetent officers "I build a shoe, if someone wishes to insert his foot into it and then loudly announce that it fits that's not my problem".

"Lick Bush in '92"
I had that put on a t-shirt during the '92 election and wore it around campus, to include the office of the College Republicans.  The CRs got a coupla yuks from it and proceeded to debate the issues with me.  These folks had never had to defend some of GHWB's positions...from attacks to his "right" (I was a big-L Libertarian at the time).  FWIW, the Democrats on campus did not have near as much humor when it came to shots at Slick Willy.  Also, profs who smiled at the "Lick..." shirt were not so cordial when Slick Willy was show to be an empty suit.

"Nuke Gay Whales for Jesus" always brought a smile to my face.

"If God didn't want us to eat animals" (front)

Standing Wolf,  I have the "Celebrate Diversity", Multitudenous gun pic T-Shirt.

My neighbor has a T shirt that has the sillouette of a sniper and has large words,
"Sniper-up" above it.

We both enjoy wearing these articles of bait frequently, especially when we take our wives to dinner with a mutual lawyer friend and his wife who are lefties.

For y'all in the city, we Michigan hillbillies consider T shirts to be formal attire, especially when worn with baggy shorts and 6" Wolverine boots. heh.

Peter,
The T shirts sometime initiates a good conversation with fellow patriots.  They also serve to allow opportunities to try and reason with Lefies (If that is possible)  Usually it's not, so we create an uneasiness on their part which imho is a good state of mind for them to be in.  In fact, maybe we are doing them a favor, as most lefties seem to be always upset or uneasy about, well, everything.  Form of charity in my mind.cheesy

My personal favorite has a picture of a mushroom cloud with the inscription:

"Made in America by lazy, stupid American workers,
tested in Japan"

I used to have on that said "Politically Incorrect" on the front, and "Free Minds, Free Markets, Free Society" on the back.
