Scorpions in Tennessee
« on: October 08, 2007, 09:46:41 AM »
During our vacation in Gatlinburg last week, I found a small scorpion in the bathroom sink.  I assumed it traveled with the building material (new house) or in someone's luggage, but a bit of research indicated there is one species native to Tn and another transplanted from elsewhere.

I lived in Tn for 6 years and have been to the Gatlinburg/Smokey Mtn National Park at least half a dozen times and have never seen scorpions or heard about them before.

" If you ask a Tennessean about a scorpion sighting, the answers usually range from just a frown to "I think youre in the wrong state."

Hell, that was my reaction when you told me about them yesterday!  laugh

Sunday it felt a little better, but it was quite irritated from me rubbing it.

Yep they sure do live there.
I stepped on one when I got up in the morning at a cabin we rented west of the Pigeon Forge area. (About 2 years ago)
The sting felt alot like a small bee.. but dissipated nearly instantly.

I found that same site when I got home and researched them.

And you all laughed when I pointed out the cat-arachnid army connection.

I'll clear out my PM box for your acknowledgments of my rightness.  grin
