Here's hoping everyone enjoys a fun and loving day free of stress.

Anyone going shooting today? I will be either today or tomorrow.

Probably tomorrow. My Saiga is free again, since I decided to stop looking for the keys and force open the gun cabinet. Best of all, my wife decided to reward me! "Well, I guess you better get a bigger cabinet anyway..."  grin

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Dinner this afternoon at one friend's house.  Going for dessert later in the evening at another friends.

Renting a wood splitter with a neighbor tomorrow (and probably into Saturday) and the kids will be stacking firewood, probably have enough bucked for 6-8 facecords (only have 2-1/2 split and ready to burn now) That should get us through the winter.

Shooting will have to wait until our usual Sunday Family Range trip.

Happy T-day everyone !!!!

Does this seem like it could result in an awkward situation?

Nope, too much death in my family this year to really enjoy the holidays.

I'll be very happy to see 2007 in the rearview.

I'm stuck at work today and tomorrow. Been here 5 hours so far and I haven't had any activity. My partner came in early and got popped 3x before I got here. He's fit to be tied- been bitching about 'those stupid Indians' all day (waitaminute- he's Indian himself, before you start throwing stuff). At least he's leaving in less than an hour, and we just got a weather notice about possible nasty stuff (for Dallas it's nasty) heading our way now, so he's praying to all his gods that he gets iced in tonight.  I'll drive in, irrespective of what the weather is. I'll just take the surface streets.

As for myself, I'll probably make a detour past Dealy Plaza with that box of old, verdigris-covered milsurp ammo and spent brass and scatter it for the tourists before I go home for the night.  It's a little ritual/practical joke I do every Thanksgiving. I'll make sure I get plenty over on the Grassy Knoll again, too.

I figure if we get around to it, we might have dressing and some makker of poultry/turkey this weekend. I haven't been in a festive mood this week, unless you count pulling the wool over conspiracy nuts' eyes.

Regards,
Rabbit.

I guess Mike and I are the two grinches today.

This week was horrible. The owners of the studio I freelance for cancelled two days of shooting they'd scheduled me for, which means I lost out on $1000. Then the owner read me the riot act yesterday because of my bad mood. Well, shoot. $1000 is a lot of money to me, so I figure a bad mood shouldn't be a surprise. I won't be at all surprised if they call next week to say our freelance agreement is over.

Anywho, I hope everyone else is enjoying the holiday.

I didn't really go shooting proper, but I did just step out back and run 14 rounds through a colt .45 mag my ex-dad-in-law gave me this morning to see how it worked in my Springfield Armory .45 (fine).

Now, since by "out back" I mean the back balcony of my Manhattan condo, I have to run now...No, really, I mean I literally have "to run now"...

My thanksgiving? I goofed my alarm clock so I missed both family gatherings (they both run early). I did have a plate of leftovers and chat with grandma for a while though.

Go easy on the 8mm Mauser brass, though.  I seeded a lot of that last time I was down there.  Wink

Cheesy

I didn't toss any 8mm, but there's an interesting assortment of 7.65 Argy and 6.5 Arisaka out there, along with some odd lot of 7.62x54R.

I figured you have the 8mm covered already.

No precipitation at all at my house overnight, btw. Rained 4 miles south, snowed 3 miles north of me, however.

I don't understand this ritual of wasting perfectly good (well, maybe) brass and ammo. undecided

I just found a box of my Norma 6.5 Arisaka in the basement at Mom's house while I was building an inside storm window.

I started doing it as my little holiday ritual when I was working for a dot.gov agency in a building overlooking Dealey Plaza several years ago.

I didn't get as early a jump on it this year as in the past, what with Thanksgiving so early this year. Most years I'd have salted the hole at least a week earlier. I seldom put out any Carcano rounds, mostly odd crappy crusty Berdan primed Euro stuff. Four years ago I was walking around scattering them while Dan Rather was taping a special maybe 50 feet away.

It's always a scream to see Japanese tourists spot one- like finding diamond and platinum encrusted Faberge Oswald Easter eggs.

I enjoy the simple things, don't I?

100 years from now that place is going to look like Verdun to some poor archaeologist. If only I was there to enjoy that...
