Do you think Bloomberg makes any money on his media outfit? The rest of left-wing press are struggling. Are Bloomberg terminals still a thing? Is that how he's raking in all that cash?
Yes, Bloomberg Terminals are still very much a thing.
And it's been a client software suite on a PC instead of a dedicated terminal for years now. And it costs about $24,000 a year, with a two year lease/license per person. It is discounted to $20,000 a year if you have 2 or more terminals at your company. Bloomberg has about 1/3rd of a million users, and if you assume most are in an office/firm with more than one terminal, it's the $20,000 a year price, and that puts the gross revenue of Bloomberg Info Sys at about 6.5 Billion a year. And that's not counting additional upgrades and products they sell, like access to certain exchanges or markets above the basic access, or stock/portfolio research information you can pay to have appear in the terminal, which can cost several thousand more.
For certain kinds of stock and bond trading, Bloomberg is the defacto standard and there aren't really any other good options.
When I worked IT at an investing fund firm, they had about 400 seats total in the company, and about 20% of them had Bloomberg on their PC's.
