I am going to go chat tomorrow with a local healthcare facility about a position as their quality and risk director and they do not know me. I wear business attire (dress shirt, tie, suit or sportcoat/dress slacks) every work day, and about half the time, I wear a bow tie. Being the risk manager often has a somewhat grim connotation with it in healthcare since people often think something awful has happened or will happen when I show up. Many people have said the bow tie makes me look less scary and more approachable.
This is front of an interview panel of providers, medical directors and other executives.
