I chaperoned at a teen lock in at church that my daughter wanted to attend. One of the planned activities was a massive nerf war. Dozens of nerf guns were brought in, a tote chock full of nerf darts, and one of the young adults was tasked with setting up the fight.
I was sort of sitting it out and enjoying watching my daughter's team fight and yelling encouragement when a few adults joined in on the other side. I went to the armory, picked out a junky gun and helped defend the flag for a bit.
They transitioned to a team deathmatch, one life, no respawn and I thought that sounded like fun. I grabbed a better gun and started clearing hallways. I'm not any kind of tactical expert, but picked up a little bit of the basics. Speed, surprise, violence of action, and all that. Turns out those tactics are really quite effective against kids. The young guy running the event was hunkered down in a room with the lights off and a giant drum mag in his gun shooting over the top of an overturned table and controlling a hallway crossing. I slipped past his room to clear the rest of the hallway, then came back and successfully stormed it with a few kids from our team.
After we were done, one of the kids came up to me and gave me what I think is the nicest compliment any kid at church has ever given me: "Hey, you're really good at shooting people."
