Jack in the Box tacos
« on: March 10, 2008, 08:34:53 AM »
Do people order those in spite of their being the greasiest, nastiest tacos on the planet?  Or do they order them because of that fact?

I was just there, and about 80% of orders were for four tacos.

2 for .99 cents.  Add some onion rings and a shake and you're ready to go.  laugh

I'll never ever eat at a Jack in the Box...

Summer - 1971 before I joined the Army. Worked at a Jack in the Box - evening shift - main drag in San Bernardino, CA - Riverside Drive or somthing - very busy store. There was a pretty wierd guy working there who did most of the cooking. Made the secret sauce, kept the freezer stocked etc.

We sold lots and lots of TACOS. LOTS.

This guy got caught peeing in the frozen tacos and then stickin' 'em back in the freezer. Claimed he'd been doing it since he started working there. Needless to say the manager fired the guy on the spot.

It didn't take long before the regulars were complaining that the tacos just weren't the same. What had we done to 'em? Change 'em back.

Taco sales went down a bunch over the next month.

It was pretty obvious what the problem was.

No one volunteered to fix it. Cheesy

I spent a week in Oklahoma working on a mall.  One day I went through the drive through at JitB.  I took a look at what was on the menu, and smelled what was coming out of the kitchen, then I drove through without ordering.  I haven't been back.  I can be fairly adventurous (read: stupid) when it comes to ordering food (I used to get the best burritos ever from some dude who spoke not a word of english and sold food out of his mobile taco stand down on Col. Glenn road) but my sense of self-preservation kicked in pretty hard there.  I'm glad they don't breed in my state (yet! dun dun dunnnnn!).

The one surprisingly good fast food I wish would come up here is Sheetz gas stations. Excellent subs, plus I swear you could eat off the floor.

Sheetz is phenomenal. $2 subs that stomp Subway, and order at the pump....go in when you pay for your gas and pick up your sub. God bless America.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Sheetz is a gas station/convience store chain.

They tend to be nicer and cleaner than your average convience store, too.
Thier name is much better than this one

Sheetz has one of the best Flash websites I've seen, as well.

It's not bloated, it loads fast, and is attractive with lots of content.

Looks nice.  Using their direction finder, it looks like I'd have to drive about 1400 miles to get to the nearest one.  sad

I would say "no *expletive deleted*it" but that would actually be incorrect.   grin

The only fast food tacos I'll bother with are from the local Taco bell, which rarely scores below 95% on the local inspection reports.  The food is usually hot (unlike many other TBs, where I've gotten cold tacos, )

But if I want real, actual GOOD mexican fast(?) food, I'll go to a local mexican stand and order a $4.00 carne asada burrito.  Plenty of fresh beef, lots of good peppers, not so many beans or rice (which is how I like it.)   Kinda greasy, but it tastes so damned good I just don't care.

Del taco is much better than taco bell. sadly, the one up the street from us closed recently after the franchisee reportedly refused to pay his franchise fees. my wife loved their big fat chicken tacos.i liked everything i tried, and that was most everything on the menu. i don't eat at taco bell.

I've got a local Mexican-family-run place that consistently scores near perfect on health inspections. The whole interior is like a courtyard, complete with a giant Aztec calendar, handpainted tile floors and a fountain, and the food is very, very, very good. The vegetables are fresh, the salsa's cilantro is always just-cut, the chips are steaming hot from just being cooked, and the plates...and food...are hot enough to burn you when you get them. They make excellent huevos rancheros, too, which is unusual. Refried beans that actually have a smokiness to them and aren't bland, gloppy paste.

Not surprisingly, it's always packed, and the staff runs it like a "serious" restaurant, there's an expediter visible moving around in and out of the kitchen, eying everything.

Wow.

100 miles to a Jack in the Box
200 miles to a Del Taco
~250 to a Sheetz

This is sucking Smiley
