I've got a local Mexican-family-run place that consistently scores near perfect on health inspections. The whole interior is like a courtyard, complete with a giant Aztec calendar, handpainted tile floors and a fountain, and the food is very, very, very good. The vegetables are fresh, the salsa's cilantro is always just-cut, the chips are steaming hot from just being cooked, and the plates...and food...are hot enough to burn you when you get them. They make excellent huevos rancheros, too, which is unusual. Refried beans that actually have a smokiness to them and aren't bland, gloppy paste.
Not surprisingly, it's always packed, and the staff runs it like a "serious" restaurant, there's an expediter visible moving around in and out of the kitchen, eying everything.
