Weird perp, but victims weirder?
« on: February 11, 2009, 11:50:02 PM »
This story broke last week, but it's still making headlines.

A male high school student posing as a female high school student on Facebook got guys from his school to send him photos of them naked. He then threatened to release the photos to other students unless the guys performed "sex acts" on him.

They're still trying to count how many male students were coerced into having sex with the perp.

There's a couple of things I just don't understand. First, which would be worse: having photos of you naked being circulated around the school, or performing a "sex act" on the guy?

Second, why were the guys coerced? If it had been me (assuming I'd ever let photos of me naked be taken), I would have responded to the extortion by introducing the guy's head to a tire iron.

Are guys in high school these days that afraid to fight?

The story is here

Weak dude.

While I wouldn't be sending nekkid pictures of myself to someone on facebook, I'd have the tenacity to give the guy a good reason not to spread the photos. Ala the Tire Iron

People are just wimps these days I guess....

You'd kill someone for threatening to show pictures you willingly gave?

The proper response to this situation would be either:

A. "Okay, show them.  I was an idiot for giving them out, and while it's wrong of anyone to trick me or display what was supposed to be private, it's not worth performing unwanted sex.  If you choose to release them, however, there will be police visiting you shortly thereafter."

B. Call the police.

I am glad a tire iron wasn't introduced.

Don't try to understand it. These are people sending nude pics of themselves to a fake female. Reason and sanity went out the window with their BVDs.

1. There is no amount of money, nor any extent of coercion or extortion that would make me have sex with a man.  In any way. No way.  Ever.

2.  If I were asked to come up with five pieces of advice to live by, number one would be to never take, or let anyone else take naked photos of you, unless you're a porn star or you really, really don't care.

3.  Number two would be to use your brain, not your penis, when making decisions.  Getting women is not that hard, and there isn't a single one of them, no matter how hot, who is worth one minute of unnecessary drama, one fight with a friend or otherwise, or the risk of being extorted, just to get laid.   If you disagree with this, please grow up, for your own sake.

Maybe, but I have to disagree with your solution.  Someone who is as cold and calculating as the gay perp in this case isn't going to give up that easily.  Knock him out, and your photos are going to ten times as many places as they would if you simply deny his demand for sex.  To pre-emptively solve this problem, see #3 above.

Psychopaths seem to have a highly tuned ability to find victims.

They seem to be able to sense or smell weakness and use it to there purposes.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Dntsycnt, the tire iron comment was over the top.

Nevertheless, this is high school we're talking about. I remember fists flying for reasons that were paltry compared to this.

Yes, it was stupid for the guys to send the photos of themselves. But caving in to the extortion is mind-boggling to me. If the perp's reaction would have been to circulate the photos even more, then upping the ante would be in order. John McCain notwithstanding, people can be broken by the use of pain.

Common sense.  Not so common any more.

Common sense even works for horny teenage boys.  Heck, common sense is especially valuable for horny teenage boys.  But the not-so-horny teenage boys can benefit from it, too.

:P

Horny adults, also.  ;)

Common sense is cool in that it even works for horny teenage boys.

Ummmm, yeah? I was objecting to your assumption that "common sense" was ever all that "common."

I agree that I would have just let him release the photos into circulation. Then I would have gone to the Police and tell them that he has child pornography in his possession.

Oh, well then.  Allow me to adjust my earlier post.

You recognize a problem, then add to an unrelated area and ignore the actual issue. Do you work for the fed.gov by any chance? I think I saw a stimulus bill you wrote.....

Yer not making much sense.  What actual issue am I avoiding?

If I worked for FedGov, would I have bothered to alter my earlier posting just to suit you?

/sigh....

I'm joking here man. You said "Common sense. Not so common anymore." I pointed out that so-called common sense has never been common. You then replied that common sense was useful. I point out that doesn't address my concern, you edit more stuff about who common sense is useful for into that post, and I make a stimulus package joke. Geez......

This doesn't work when you're 16. Getting laid at that age is rather... difficult at the best of times.

Depends on the kid I suppose. They can't all be socially awkward and ugly. Even then, still not an excuse for being stupid.

That's not my point.

My point is that at this age, practically all the teenage boys/young men want to get laid. Like, really, really, really do. It's natural, even. Further, this is enhanced in a lot of places by the social expectation that boys are supposed to be like that, and that it's really cool if they get laid. It's almost a status thing for some people.

However, as far as I know, it's not considered socially acceptable for girls of that age to 'put out', and various social rules are put in place to prevent the boys from getting late. Ergo, the supply of sex (willing girls) is artificially reduced while the demand for it (high already) is artificially inflated by the culture/media etc.

Ergo, people at that age do some crazy stuff to get laid.

Micro, your assessment is mostly spot-on.  However, methinks you didn't attend the right parties when you were 16.

I did foolish things in high school, but even if the Internet had been available then the way it is now, I really, really, do NOT envision taking naked pictures of myself, much less emailing them anywhere . . . at any age.

I do believe the response to attempted extortion by a transvestite would have involved a trip - perhaps multiple trips - to the E.R. for said transvestite.
