Help me find a gun.
« on: August 05, 2011, 09:28:49 AM »
My next gun purchase needs to be a full frame 9mm that has cheap magazines. Right now all I'm thinking of is an HP or a CZ. Would be curious to get the hive's thought.

Glocks are out, I don't like shooting them. Sorry to be picky.  =|

Why are cheap magazines important?

Because I like to have lots of them, and I am a cheap bastidge.

Where are you planning on getting cheap CZ magazines?

BHP is aluminum alloy frame, IIRC.  CZ75 is steel, but there are lots of variants, to include some double-action decockers with alloy frames.

My preference is for the CZ75, since it fits my hand a bit better than the BHP.

My Smith M&P9 has been a great gun. Just ordered two new mags but haven't picked them up yet (need to do that before the match next week), but I'm sure you can find them fairly affordably online.

I vote for the Argentina-made (FM) HP.  Last time I checked they were about $300.  Parts are interchangeable with Belgian and Portuguese BHP's.

This. If you buy CZ-branded mags, they're in the mid-$40's for a 16-round. However, compatible Mec-gar mags aren't priced quite so horribly, usually mid $20's.

Springfield XD or XD(m). But outside of maybe Glock (due to it's popularity and volume of scale) no handguns have cheap magazines the way mil surp rifles do.

My current carry gun and current favorite 9mm is my SIG 2022.

I recomend it highly as a good sized 9mm, and it's price is pretty good too.  That would be my go to choice.

I would second the M&P 9 recommendation to at least try.  I have the .40 and .45 versions and love them both to death.  New magazines are going to be $30 or a little under unless you find a deal or sale somewhere.

Any pistol that's been around for awhile will fit your criteria.

Glocks, Beretta 92 family, anything that takes a S&W 5900 series mag, Ruger P-series, XD...
I promise not to duck.

The Beretta is looking pretty strong, but I never have actually fired one. The M&P's are great guns. I've shot the baby 9 and mid sized 40 and loved both.

Beretta is a big gun to carry.

'nother vote for the 92.  Mags are cheap and everywhere.  A couple of neat carbines use the same mags, as well.

The CX4 Storm carbine in 9mm is an awesome gun.  Fun to shoot and very accurate.  I've seen a lot of new shooters enjoy shooting it and do quite well with it.

If you don't like Glocks, I would recommend the S&W M&P 9mm and the Springfield XD 9mm.

Wurd.  My XD9 hasn't missed a lick and is a joy to shoot.

You mentioned BHP & CZ in your OP.  Does this mean you prefer C&L?  If you like C&L, a 9mm 1911 might also be an option.

Beretta 92 is great quality, but flipping HUGE and TDA.  I don't like TDA or decockers at all.

OK, so get an XD then.

M&P 9mm. Carries like a Glock, shoots soft like a full steel frame. Good aftermarket support, reasonable mag prices.

What's TDA?

Too Damn Awful?

Tactical Double Assault?

Please enlighten.  ;)

I do like cocked and locked, and I actually love the CZ and BHP. Just exploring my options.

The 92 IS a very large weapon but I don't intend on carrying it concealed. It's going to go into my competition/serious situation rig.

I picked up a sig P6 for concealed carry a couple weeks ago. It's a great gun but mags are $50 a pop.

The TT had been my Serious Pistol and concealed gun but the surplus ammo is gone, so I'm trying to strengthen my logistical situation.

Beretta 92 or M&P.

TDA= True Double Action, I guess.. Long heavy trigger pull on the first shot.
