I don't think it's possible to believe in evolution and a "gay gene" at the same time.
On two occasions, I have been asked [by members of Parliament], "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" I am not able to rightly apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

Because of the vastly lowered chances of breeding.  I should think that would be obvious.  Maybe there are some geneticists on the board who could further enlighten me, but it seems to me that a trait which reduces your chances of breeding by X percent would select out relatively quickly (in historic terms) for X > 1, longtail logarithmic probability notwithstanding.  I am not sure what the X for hemophilia is, nor for homophilia, but I would be willing to bet the latter is double-digits and the former quite a bit lower.

Now, the point could be raised that societal pressure has resulted in a smaller than natural X in this case, but in the history of man, it would seem too little too late to support the "gay gene" theory.

I put it forward in a light-hearted vein, but some people are quite serious about it. Personally, I think it could lead to the criminalization of "hate-abortions" against homosexual infants. It sounds stupid when I actually type it out, but we have seen goofier things come to pass, haven't we?

I hate to use this term to describe abortion... but wouldn't it be interesting if they suddenly adopted the position that it was ok to kill a baby, so long as it wasn't a gay baby?

I personally know more than a few pro-life gays. Lots of folks don't fall neatly into the left/right column.  

Of course, the pro-life gays would not be welcome by many on the right, as these folks are also for allowing gay couples to marry and adopt.  

We already have thought-crime type laws in some states concerning sex-selective abortion.

That supposes a very simplistic view of how it may passed along.  Many genes are passed from one generation to the next with out them manifesting a given characteristic.

Arizona, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Illinois have laws forbidding race and/or sex-selective abortion.  AZ, for instance, requires the Dr. to sign an affidavit for every abortion performed stating that they do not believe it is a race or sex selective one.

You also need to consider if possession of a certain allele, deleterious to oneself, somehow makes your relatives more likely to reproduce.  Bad for you, good for your genes.

Also, consider sickle cell.  IIRC (been a long while), homozygous means you die of it.  Heterzygous means you might be a bit weaker, but more likely to survive malaria.

Based on some local newspaper articles some years ago, I believe British Columbia in Canada may have a similar law or at least they were considering it at one time.  I believe it was in response to certain immigrant populations doing abortions only for sex selection.  Some of those populations put a lot of emphasis on having male babies.
