Shia mosque in Kuwait bombed, over 25 reported dead.

I've been right by that mosque.

Apparently ISIS is starting to get more sporty.  We'll be kicking this ground war off soon.

If "we" is France or some other country in the West, sure.

If by "we" you mean the United States, Obama will not commit our troops to a war. His "legacy" is the he ended all the wars! I'm not even sure a nuke would force his hand. (Though the impeachment might.)
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Unless any one of the several thousand American Service members in Kuwait get blown up.  Then I bet even Obama goes back in.

I'd take that bet.

What difference, at this point, does it make?

[shrug] I could be wrong.  Spending too much effort trying to guess how a politician will jump is a fools errand.  If recent history is any indicator, it will depend on how well a new war is trending on Facebook and Twitter.

Think I'm one of the few that thinks we should stay out of it. At best, bomb the known ISIS strongholds to hell and/or run our troops through them as quickly as possible. Then immediately leave. Repeat as necessary. US military is quite good at breaking things and killing people. It absolutely sucks at occupation and politics.

Agreed, 100%.  I don't want to go back, or think it will go any better, I just think it's likely, before.....oh say 2020 or so.

Yep, me too.

We need to be very long-suffering, then if forced to "do something" do it with gloves off, disproportionate response.

I'm going to be really upset if France is the first one to actually take the gloves off.

Doesn't ISIS have a flag  ???

We should ban their flag.  That'll fix them  :P

You seem to think Obama is on our side.  He's an ISIS sympathizer; being careful not to go *too* far over the line and get himself impeached.

Obama would likely apologize to the terrorists and release more gitmo residents.

I haven't seen anyone in this thread advocating that we get into it.

I got a feeling the French would be utterly vicious if they needed to be.

We had a chance to stop this stuff cold after 9-11 and blew it big time.
Tokugawa Ieyasu would have had no problem whatsoever dealing with this crap.
Our stupid snowflake western morality has left us limp.

So we did nothing effective, killed a random load of them, got a load of our troops killed and wounded , and have nothing to show for it, when it could have been decisively won for the next hundred + years with the right application of force.  Now, by the time this flustercluck comes to an end, half the planet is gonna be depopulated all because we lacked the stones to do what had to be done.

it could have been decisively won for the next hundred + years with the right application of force.

I would be interested in your concept of "the right application of force".

These are not countries we would be dealing with.  There is no political department that would/could declare "enough" and sue for peace and agree to surrender terms.  While creating a jihadifrei space is going to be relatively easy, maintaining it is going to be a lifetime slog that will cost more (not in dollars but emotions and morals) than I think our politicians are willing to even seriously consider.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.
