Political terrorism has always been about hatred and intolerance. But this weekend's shooting was a particularly nasty representation of the genre because of who the targeted victims were: LGBT people at a seemingly safe space.

If he'd said it was "particularly nasty" due to the body count, that would be one thing. But no; it's the fact that it was homosexuals targeted at a club catering to homosexuals that makes it "particularly nasty."

I wouldn't think so, but I guess the argument could be made.

I'd tend to say 'yes', mostly because that makes it clear that it was an attack on a religion/the religious, more so than the store, even if they shot up whatever Jewish people would call a grocery store dedicated to selling to their food needs.

   Obviously, no one wants to be killed there, but it is not a place that anyone goes to, thinking, "Oh, this is a safe environment for me and my family. All will be peaceful and wholesome."

Some states do allow carry in bars.  Usually not while drinking.  Why wouldn't a designated driver who is not drinking alcohol be allowed to carry?  Or a bartender, etc.

No, I'm not.  I am kinda arguing that it's a place where more armed security might be good as you have people voluntarily disarmed so they can enjoy their favorite intoxicant.  As well as dressing clothes where you'd have a hard time stashing a derringer.

A gay bar (or other gay establishment) is a safe place for gay folks, it is a place where people of similar mind (or gay tolerant/accepting) can hang out and be themselves.

That sounds great.  You also should figure in the cost of that security adding to the cost of drinks, etc.  Some people will like it, others won't.

It's a lot different then regular clubs, which was why my group of friends (most of whom were straight) went to the gay club.

The other clubs, lot's of alley fights, bouncers doing their thing, people getting shitty with each other. Gay club? Happy as could be, bouncers mostly sat on their asses and watched the dancing, no brawls, no issues. And the happy vibe would actually double up on drag show nights.

Na, just Man Love Thursday. Ask anyone who has been deployed to the ME, Afghanistan or a heavily Islamic country. Gender segregation is a big thing. So dudes uhm, get friendly. And yet actually BEING gay can have lethal consequences. Closest analogy I can think is 'prison gay'.
