Dear employee:
My risk management colleague up at the hospital called me this morning. It is never good when a colleague starts the conversation: 'Do you know what one of your employees did?'.
It turns out that according to the hospital, you were acting as a doula for one of our OB patients, you billed the patient for this, and told the hospital and patient you were doing this as one of my employees.
You are a receptionist working for me. You can be a doula on your own time, for someone who is not one of my patients. You cannot be a doula on my time, especially when you are not employed as one by me, you cannot be a doula for one of my patients while working here, you certainly cannot charge one of my patients for your side job direct to you, and you cannot tell the patient and the hospital that this is part of your employment here.
This violates several ethical principles and HR policies. I will be meeting with some people to confirm the facts relayed to me, and assuming they are correct, I will be moving directly to termination. The hospital is not happy either and they are planning on trespassing you from their campus. I hope the private doula practice can support you and your family, cause you are not going to be getting more paychecks from me.
