Introducing myself and saying 'Hi' :-)
Looks like a grand group! :-)
-
Welcome to APS! Have fun! I'm not up on all the new rules for new folks but its something about ammo and alcohol
-
Thanks! I'll try to remember that :-)

I'm pretty sure this thread is racist.

Your rebuttal is indeed cogent. I retract my earlier accusation.
-
Yes, it's crazy here.
The good kind. Well... I guess if you're crazy and think crazy is good. However, I will say that you should not buy moccasins from Monkeyleg. Complaining to the appropriate government agencies takes forever.
So, what brought you here? How did you find us? =)
-
Newbies buy the booze and bullets. I'll take a Guinness and a 7-round mag of 9mm, please.
Welcome aboard!

Crazy is my kind of place! I sort of traded groups - I mentioned one I was part of, and the other fella mentioned one he was part of.

Thanks for the welcome! Coming up on the Guinness - have to run so the head doesn't collapse! Only 7? You must live in New York! :-)

Firefly - SHINY!
Zardoz - saw it when it first came out (six times I think - then-boyfriend thought it was great) I still wonder how much they had to pay Connery to wear red "ruby" high heels in the final battle scene.
Monty Python - But of **course**! And my father has *never* smelt of elderberries ;-)
The Big Bang Theory - watched the first season on DVD in one evening. I like the concept, but sit coms and I don't get along. I like my humor less ... lappy
All of Robert Heinlein's Works - YES! He's one of the greats! A good friend of mine wrote the afterward to the Baen edition of "Puppet Masters" :-)
Atlas Shrugged - yep :-)
External ballistics - Good! (would 'internal ballistics' involve the ping pong ball scene from "The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert"? :-D)

Nope, not scared off at all. Got caught up in some other stuff. When the muse hits me upside the head, I have to write it down. It's the only way to keep the voices in my head under control ;-)

Hoff? You mean the guy who did the *great* job of Nick Fury before Nick Fury turned all black and Samuel L Jackson-y?
Here's the .45AutoRim, doubled :-) Do you want a box with that, or will you be firing it immediately? :-)

That doesn't mean you have to give it to her.

If she is going to praise Hasselhoff's portrayal of Nick Fury over Samuel Jackson's, she deserves whatever she gets....
-
Nothing stirs up the board like the arrival of some extra estrogen.
-
Crazy is my kind of place! I sort of traded groups - I mentioned one I was part of, and the other fella mentioned one he was part of.
Is APS part of Major League Baseball now? I don't recall signing anything granting permission for me to be traded without prior consent.
-
Do you know the song:
"In the ocean,
The mighty ocean,
Cthulhu sleeps tonight..." ?
I don't recall the lyric, but it has a certain familiar ring to it.
Yes, you may adapt satisfactorily.

Well I'll be, she DID come back. :O

I missed a lot of that stuff in the Sixties - I was listening to Marty Robbins and Merle Haggard, etc.

If she has some extra, maybe Kitteh-Dragon can give some to my soon-to-be ex. Might help with that mustache thing.

But Hasselhoff did his before Marvel 'rebooted' Fury :-) I'm not dissing Jackson's Fury -- they're, just, different guys. You could *believe* Hasselhoff's *might* have come out of WWII :-) Jackson is all kinds of awesome.
If she is going to praise Hasselhoff's portrayal of Nick Fury over Samuel Jackson's, she deserves whatever she gets....

Jackson's Fury
Now there's a name for a band
-
Just to share something I grew up on (older brothers. **Much** older brothers :-) )
The Kingston Trio doing "Wimoweh" at the Hungry Eye. Can't find the year, sorry.

Not bad for a Calypso band. ;)

And the lady is an audiophile as well. This gets scarier by the moment. :O
I think you'll fit right in.

I loved Jackson's *expletive deleted*ing Fury ( AND THAT would be the awesome band name) but when Cap teamed up with some Howlers, I did have a pang of disapointment in the whole redo situation.
Furthermore, I'll take Jackson over the Hoff in ANY role.
The female of the species is more deadly than the male ;)
And around here, we tend to be better armed as well ;)
-
If she is into SF, she has not yet answered a key question: Star Wars or Star Trek? And her favorite SF author.
-
Oh, we're an "assortment" all right.
-
Has Kitteh-Dragon read the "Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee - Tales from the Apocalypse" thread yet? I think that should be a requirement for membership beyond a probationary period.

Started on it. It's pretty long :-)

Huh, she's not yet run screaming into the night. Either she's got ovaries the size of a M1 Abrams, or she's made of some stern stuff......
Welcome to the nuthouse forum!
-
I think the true measure is Firefly.
-
something I grew up on (older brothers. **Much** older brothers :-) )
Oh, yeah - sure ;/
:P
-
Oh, gosh. Depends, there are so many permutations!
OK - I'm older than dirt. I watched the first ep of Star Trek (OS) when it was broadcast, and have loved it ever since. Next Gen is great. Never got into Voyager. DS9 sort of went off into la la land for me after a few years. I enjoyed Enterprise (was a Quantum Leap fan, so Scott Bakula in a Star Trek thingy was a double win). But it seemed to go weird there toward the last, too.
I also (see above, "Dirt: older than") saw the first ever Star Wars when it came out. Enjoyed them immensely for what they were. And love the music. The later released 'installments'? Not so much. And Jar Jar Binks is an abomination to the Universe, IMHO ;-)
Do I *have* to have *one* favorite SF author? ::whimper:: I mean, some of them are really good friends of mine! You expect me to *choose*?! Hmmm...
I enjoy MilSF. And 'Space Opera'. I will not tolerate dystopian defeatism. So, in no particular order whatsoever:
Robert A Heinlein (in a class all his own. Though I didn't go so far as Sarah A Hoyt a give birth to my first born son on his birthday and name him 'Robert Anson'! :-D But I might have if I'd have thought of it!!!)
Tom Kratman
Sarah A Hoyt
John Ringo
Andre Norton (only her early stuff. After Witch World she went really, really woo woo and I am *very* picky about which of hers to read after that)
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Dave Freer
David Weber
David Drake
Terry Prachett
Keith Laumer
Jerry Pournelle
Philip K. Dick
Gordon R. Dickenson
And, in the interests of full disclosure - I *do* beta read for more than one of them who are still, thank God, among us and writing! So, please, don't make me pick *one*! :-)
If she is into SF, she has not yet answered a key question: Star Wars or Star Trek? And her favorite SF author.

My hubby wanted to know what I was laughing out loud at. I showed him. Quoth the hubby, "Tell 'em "Try harder, guys"" :-D
Love this! :-D

Dear Kitteh-Dragon:
We are approximately the same age, and I also remember seeing TOS, Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Time Tunnel, etc. on my parent's B&W TV.
We also share tastes in SF and authors.
Please stop by and marry me if you are ever in the Seattle area.
Thank you.

Now all I have to do is some sort of Vulcan mind meld on the current Ms. MillCreek so that she forgets Kitteh-Dragon's visits to the area.

Boys, control yourselves. Y'all act like you've never seen a real girl before and you don't want to scare this one off like you scared the last couple who dropped by.
Welcome K-D! I could use some 9mm and any old lager (because I'm NOT a beer snob, unlike many around here).
And while the boys have their rules about what you have to like and not like, BlueStarLizzard, LadySmith, and I only have a few. 1) We do not make sammiches for the boys unless they've EARNED them. 2) We do not cook bacon for them unless they've EARNED it. 3) When they misbehave, we throw shoes, grenades, or live ammo at them, using whatever tools are handy. 4) We girls do not exploit each other's weaknesses unless it's just damn funny or the opportunity is too good to pass up or there is nothing more interesting going on.
Stick around - this is a good bunch of screwballs folks.
-
What a crew...

Quite the nicest offer I've had in a long time! Thank you! But, hubby and I have been happily married for 25 years, and intend to keep on making each other laugh and be loved as long as possible :-)

OK. Captain Tight pants is awesome. But I prefer Adam Baldwin. Oh, DANG! I left Larry Correia off my 'favorite SF authors list'!!! Because his "Stranger & Stranger" short stories he posts on his blog with Adam Baldwin are *awesome*. And I enjoy his Monster Hunter and Grim Noir series, too.
Sorry. Firefly - love it. Have it in DVD *and* Blueray. And 'Serenity' in both. :-)
Oh - I knit Jayne Cobb hats for sale at cons, with the money going to charity (have a friend who sells them. I just send them to her).
No, I insist on Firefly. That's always a requirment.

I honestly don't know what she charges for them. Fire resistant yarn? And here I've been trying to figure out how to make them out of *detcord* ;-)
I don't sell them. I give them to friends, or I give them to the friend who sells them at her booths at cons, with the money going to charity.
I need a cunning hat. How much and can you make it of a fire resistant yarn?
-
Hey COOL! I go back to the original Trek as well. Enjoy it even on DVD these days -- despite the fact the special effects budget was $2.69 + tax. Still think the original phasers were hands down superior to "The Next Generations'" 'dustbuster' phasers.
And I like the Irwin Allen stuff as well.
I remember Gordon Dickenson, of course Edgar Rice Burroughs. And Asimov - - don't forget him. Although not everyone liked him.'
And Martin Caidin was another favorite.

We girls do not exploit each other's weaknesses unless it's just damn funny or the opportunity is too good to pass up or there is nothing more interesting going on.
They have weaknesses!

I have a *very* basic one. And it uses rather more garish colors than I think appropriate - but I had to match the others my friend is making. Lemme see ... Here's the website. She'll have to play with it for gauge and pick out her own colors :-)

Silly boy, you don't wear it on duty.
I think you're just worried your stalker might try to set fire to your head.

Didn't you tell us you regularly caught something else at work? Brown, I think you said it was.

I prefer not to share that information, sorry. Yeah, I can be paranoid :-)
The correct answer is "Guns? I used to own guns, until the boating accident..."
Then you give them the thousand yard stare.

Remember, it was a "tragic" boating accident.
And since you're still here, I'll take a bottle of Mist and some fodder for the FR8, please.

Welcome to the group! =)

I'm not sure how to break this to you.... I think your cat has a Spice problem. You should probably arrange an intervention and get the kitteh into Melange Rehab.
