"As for a truck gun, now I'm real sad that I passed up a chance to get a converted .308 Jungle Carbine for $200 last year."

Gaah! Why don't I ever find deals like that?

Always wondered what the Gibbs guns were like.  Gunboard and rec.guns consensus at the time was mixed.  Some said good, some said bubba-ed.

I picked up an Ishapore 2A, about a decade ago.  'Tis a cannon.  Price then, IIRC, was around $100, from Southern Ohio Gun.  (Mine was free, for rescuing my FFL dealer's financial file from the mess he regularly made of his computer.  He was good for that kind of deal, being a sucker for what passed for malware in those relatively innocent times.  Sure wish he was still alive.)

I know you specified a long gun, but I'm going to go against the grain here and suggest something kinda oddball - a FiveseveN.

Good round...but wrong platform. The 5.7 round needs velocity, and the only way it gets it is by barrel length. A 10.5" P90 is good...a 16" PS90 is better.

As for a truck gun, why not a good old-fashioned .30-30 levergun? Good enough for the Texas Rangers for decades....and it still gets the job done....

For new stuff, it is certainly hard to beat a 30/30.  The only thing I can think of is those Rossi single shot break open .22 LR rifles that come with 2nd barrels.  Most come with shotgun barrels, but some come with .223 also.  I'm not sure single shot is what I would want.  A 30.30 could lay down several shots quickly if you needed it.  44 Mag leverguns aren't a whole lot more, but you start getting into AK prices at that point.

Also, SKS rifles are still in the $300 range, but most lever guns are a little more compact.

The new Circuit Judge from Rossi/Taurus looks like a fun truck gun.

http://www.rossiusa.com/product-details.cfm?id=190&category=15&breadcrumbseries=&search=Circuit%20judge

Revolver/carbine hybrid. Shoots 2.5" or 3" .410 shells + .45 Colt. DA/SA. 5 shots. Gas deflecting shields. 18.5" barrel. Fiber optic front sight. Reported as being surprisingly accurate from what I've heard (sub-2" groups at 25 yards). 4.5lbs. $618 MSRP. Lifetime warranty.

I'd really like to shoot one.

Would actually be my first choice.  Second choice would be a shotgun.  Going to order that storage setup for my truck this winter....diggin it for sure.  Once I have it, I'll start looking for a gun.
I have a .30-30, but its too nice to leave in the back of my truck.  Win94 AE I bought last year in Virginia for $300.

Anyone know anything about H&R shotguns?

Texas pawn shops are great places to find a beater .30-30 Win94 or Marlin cheap. You may even find a good deal on one with a scope already mounted. Best deals usually come the month following deer season.

Me too. Sounds like a great concept. But....I'd love it if someone would come out with a levergun or revolving carbine that would use .410 and .45-70 rounds....maybe a BFR with a shoulder stock and 16" barrel......

Yep, the scope makes a great handle until you need to shoot it and then they come off pretty easy.   :P

If'n you want a fancy sighting system for a lever gun, there are plenty of apertures, both receiver and tang.

Yeah, not feelin' the lever gun scope deal.  And for a truck gun, I want something thats just plain rugged.

I actually mounted a williams peep to my Win and it brought the accuracy up a notch.

IMO, a scope defeats the purpose of a lever gun which is a light and handy repeating rifle that is quick to shoot.  However, I realize people like my Dad don't use iron sights as well as they used to.

The Taurus Judge carbine capable of using the full power 45 Colt loads?  It seems to me the revolver action limits you a little.  I wonder if they could make a tube fed lever gun use both rounds?

More $$ than I'd like to sink into a truck gun that won't get treated very well, but super cool nonetheless

Go with the low power optics. I've got a Weaver 2.5X20 on my 1894C and a Leupold 1-4X20 on my 336T. With the weaver I can keep both eyes open and with the leupold for quick shots dial it down to 1X and go to town.

Not productive, but those IMI Timberwolf pump carbines seemed like they fit the bill.

I promise not to duck.
