Most of SoCal is still above $2. It's about $2.40 where I live ($2.70 for diesel). But Santa Barbara County has always had some of the highest prices in the state. Mostly due to taxes, but I can't help but think oil companies are charging us more (deservedly) because this is where the "Get Oil Out" (GOO) campaign started and the county makes it extremely difficult for oil companies to do business here.

FWIW Last fill up on Thursday, Jerry (owns the filling station) was clicking back the $$ on the pump to 1.78.
I thought of youse guyses and this thread.

That's right, the OWNER of the station goes out to the pump with a key, and adjusts a gear regulator to set the price.
He also fixes flats while you wait.

I like living in the past.

I remember those days......vaguely.

But I remember such things as checks of....and free air and water, nobody pumped their own gas, the windshield washed, headlights polished, and S&H stamps.

Well, one could always move to Oregon, where if I understand correctly, you cannot pump your own gas...

Last time I checked, Oregon and New Jersey are the only remaining states where you cannot pump your own gas.

That would bug the hell out of me. Not really sure why, either.

Gas is running $1.95 - $2.00 out here.

$1.98-2.29 here in Idaho (the 2.29 being an oddball chevron that is always high & devoid of customers)
Diesel is at 2.65 still.

You can still find a few mom and pop gas stations in rural iowa that still have old style pumps. I haven't see a glass bottle soda machine since 1996.

Got gas today for 1.44, in Pacific, MO.  That's about an hour west of St. Louis, on I-44.

'Course, the last time I bragged about getting cheap gas there, a certain individual told me it had something to do with all the crime in St. Louis.

A can or glass bottle of Coke and a candy bar out of the vending machine, both for 25 cents apiece.

Of course, that was circa 1970-75.

That would bug the hell out of me. Not really sure why, either.

It bugs me (I grew up in Nevada and moved to Oregon to go to college), and I know exactly why.  It's because I have to wait for the freaking attendants, which might take a while if the place is busy, as most places only have one or two on duty.

You might wait for 5 minutes before one of them gets around to asking you whether or not you want a fill up, and you might wait another 5 or 10 more until they notice that the gas has stopped pumping and come and take the nozzle out and give you your receipt.

It doesn't bug me as much as it used to, though, now that I've been here for 4 1/2 years or so.

Edit:  Also, there's the assumption that you are too stupid to safely pump your own gas.  The legislation that made it illegal to pump your own gas was passed on the grounds that it was a safety issue and letting the proles pump their own gas could cause a safety hazard, though the real reason was to inflate employment.  That bugs me almost as much as waiting.

Just hit 1.89. Sometimes the price will drop again just a few hours after the last drop.

Friday night here in Tulsa I filled up at $1.63 on the way out for a hockey game.  On the way home I had noticed it dropped to $1.61 and then Saturday morning it was down to $1.59.

Last weekend I filled up in Independence, MO for $1.59 or so and I saw on the news the other day it was down to about $1.43 at the same place.

$1.57 today.  Filled the truck up in anticipation of going fishing tomorrow.  Found two flat tires on the boat's trailer when I got to the storage lot.     Going to spend tomorrow getting those fixed.

Filled up with $1.69 per gallon fuel.

Cost me $21.36 to full up from 1/4 tank. If the trend continues next week fillups will be under $20 bucks. I thought I would never have a fill up under $40 ever again.

At these prices we might be able to finance a Sugar Mama APS pirate hunting expedition.....
When I checked on the boat yesterday she had 3/4 tank of gas, so she needs 31 gallons to fill up.  So that's about $60 for premimum.  Never thought I'd see that!
