Yes, sort of, although I'm not sure I see the relevance. In either case - and my fundamental point - their death (that is, drowning in the submerged car) was not a result of the cops coldly pronouncing a death sentence on them because of their crimes.
...
Their death was no more punishment for stealing the car than it was for driving without headlights or walking out the door in the morning.
I wasn't talking about punishment, either by the cops or cosmic agency. I was talking about "first cause." Or at least proximal cause.
One could delve deeper into that and argue that the first cause was parental neglect or the Courts letting "priors" go, or whatever, but that night, the first cause of their deaths was stealing a car.

I got one of those combination hammer-seat-belt cutters and after I hefted it and looked at how awkward it was to use, I thought of getting either one of those shorty ball pein hammers or another spring-loaded prick punch. Ended up getting the punch and a knife.
Still have a slight problem as to where to keep them, bearing in mind possible panic and disorientation. I won't hang stuff from my mirror, not even my handicapped sticker, and they don't accomodate lanyards easily anyhow. So right now, they're in the console box between the seats.
I hadn't thought of using my Personal Defense Firearm to bust a window, that's a good idea, I guess.
You makes yer bet and you plays your hand.
