heh...

We had an employee running around in one of those at my company...

She not only had the mask, she also had a face shield, gloves, and a tyvek suit.

Every day.

For months on end.

Still occasionally seen the full on panic maskers in the grocery and other places.

I wonder how many lawyers are ginning up the class action lawsuit against Razer at this very moment.

A Tyvek suit?  When I had to wear one of those, I would come out five pounds lighter just from all the sweat.

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/four-years-on-covid-19-remains-a-worse-killer-than-the-flu-study-finds/

An interesting study done using VA records.

I always like more info, but am annoyed that the media (Seattle times in this case) still wants to lead with big scary numbers insteard of useful information.

Seattle times:
Quote
Patients hospitalized for COVID had a 35% higher risk of dying within 30 days than influenza patients, Ziyad Al-Aly and colleagues at the clinical epidemiology center of the Veterans Affairs St Louis Health Care System in Missouri found.

Actual numbers:
Quote
The COVID-19 and seasonal influenza groups were balanced after propensity score weighting (Table 1). Patients hospitalized for COVID-19 had a higher risk of death compared with those hospitalized for seasonal influenza (adjusted death rate, 5.70% vs 4.24% at 30 days; adjusted HR, 1.35 [95% CI, 1.10-1.66]).

While the Times is factually correct (4.24 x 1.35= 5.72)  they purposefully framed it to seem like COVID was a significant increase in risk.

For comparison the CDC is reporting 2022-2023 Flu Burden report is reporting 31,000,000 cases of the flue and 21,000 deaths, so all ages mortality of like 0.06%.  Of course, we all know that COVID and Flu hit older people worse, so your risk decisions should take that into account. (15,000 of those deaths were in people over 65)  If you are in a high risk for a bad time with respiratory illnesses because of either age, or health, than yes, COVID is still a real concern, and is one of the endemic illnesses you should protect yourself from.

^^^Also of note is that the VA patient population is skewed towards older males who may have co-morbidities.  I wanted to link the JAMA research letter behind this article, but it is paywalled.  https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2818660#:~:text=Compared%20with%20a%20study%20using,in%202023%2D2024%20for%20influenza.

Indeed.  I hadn't though of that.  Also, that's 30-day death of folks that were hospitalized for Flu/COVID.  I expect that weeds out all the "not that bad" cases.  I think by the time you are hospitalized for a respiratory illness, things have gone kinda south.

What's the 30-day survival for folks hospitalized for Pneumonia, I wonder?

That is what I was thinking about.  Does looking only at hospitalized patients really tell you that much?

I find I can often learn quite a bit by how dramatic the claims are from overly specific studies.

WE FOUND THAT COVID IS DRAMATICALLY MORE DEADLY!*

When they don't make all the data easily available... Sigh.

I'm also wondering if maybe the treatment/prescriptions if someone tests positive for the 'vid are different for flu positive?

Just had a "stupid statistical thought."

"Hey, the guys upstairs sent an email - we have to count 'em again."

"We counted them yesterday. And when are they going to get off their asses and come get them?"

"No clue - count 'em, and send the number up to the PR people."

In today's news, St. Acme Hospital has 23 dead from Covid-19. Yesterday they had 22, so this brings the death toll for the week to 83.

Is it too tinfoily to think another engineered virus will hit for election? I don't like being Alex Jones but I wonder. Some wild stuff going around local to me.

That's not "tinfoil".  That's the handwriting on the wall.  You know it's coming, just not "when".

Now we got COVID effected the moon as these people are claiming that lower CO2 levels emitted during the COVID pandemic and it's effect on climate change cooled the moon.
The writers over at The Babylon Bee are right now thinking "why didn't we think of that?!"

I have a headache now.

Our moon went through dramatic physical change during the Covid pandemic - here's why

Does anyone have a link to the official GoFundMe to send blankets and space-heaters to the Moon People?

I am seeing basically three groups of maskers... Older people, generally sorta frail... People who watch too much TV, generally minorities, who are wearing masks to signal status and virtue... You see more on Sunday after church... Then there are the young suburbanite types, who are wearing them to signal virtue and solidarity, and that they "care."

Actually four - we still got a bunch of youts who think that they'll avoid warrants and cameras...

The virtue signalers REALLY don't like someone saying "Hey, are you sick? If you're sick, that mask isn't going to protect me - you should stay home. Why are you out if you're sick?"

It seems like local Costco (not sure if it goes beyond local) shoppers have emptied the toilet paper, etc... Aldi had plenty.
